About Me

My name is Yassmin Eldouh. I received my Masters of Science in Counseling at the University of North Texas in 2017 and am currently working on my PhD in Counseling at the George Washington University. My area of research is on providing culturally competent counseling and working with people of varying identities. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC).

My approach is trauma-informed and culturally sensitive. I am LGBTQ-A affirming. I come from a Muslim and Arab background and am multiracial and multiethnic. I also offer therapy in Arabic. I have experiencing working with clients from many different walks of life, including anxiety and depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), attention-deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD), bipolar disorder, eating disorders, addictions, and personality disorders. I have worked in various settings including a residential substance abuse treatment center, an eating disorder treatment center, a domestic violence shelter, and in private practice.

A poem that inspires my therapy approach.

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness
Some momentary awareness comes
As an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
Who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
For some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
Meet them at the door laughing,
And invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,
Because each has been sent
As a guide from beyond.

FAQs

What are your areas of expertise?

I specialize in working with anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), addictions, and personality disorders. I also have extensive experience with trauma, cultural identity issues, and relationship challenges.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During the first session, I will be gathering information on your history and how things are currently going in your life. I'll get a sense of who you are, how you learn, and overall what works for you. Then, we will be collaborating on goals that you would like to achieve in therapy and ways in which we can achieve those goals. Then, we'll jump into the therapy! We will continue to revisit the progress you have made toward your goals and change/amend them as needed.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I believe in the power of therapy as a huge part of a holistic approach to overall wellness. I believe it is a collaborative approach where you are the expert on yourself, and I am here to offer support, tools, and unconditional acceptance along the way. My approach is tailored toward the unique needs of the client. I seek out and utilize evidence-based practices for your presenting concerns and keep up to date with research. I made sure to collaborate with any of your other providers. I am trained in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical-behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and other evidence-based approaches. I also utilize activity therapy as clients see fit.

Do you offer virtual or in-person sessions?

Currently, I offer virtual sessions using a secure video database called TherapyPortal.

Do you accept insurance?

I accept United Healthcare and Aetna for clients in both Washington, DC and Texas. I also see private pay clients if you have neither of these insurances. My fee is $180 for an individual 50 minute session and $220 for a couples 50 minute session.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. However, there are a few exceptions required by law, such as instances of harm to yourself or others, or in cases of abuse or neglect.

How often should I attend therapy?

Frequency depends on your needs and goals. Many clients start with weekly sessions and then adjust based on progress and preference.
